When to spread the good news?

I'm about 6 weeks pregnant with my first and wanted to ask when you ladies decided it was time to tell the good news.  I'm so stuck on what to do!  My first appointment isn't until the 28th and my husband wants to tell our family on Christmas eve when the whole family is there. But I'm so scared of something happening. ..I also heard it's best to wait until after the safe stage. ..but what is it? 
Not even my parents know yet. ...please help :/

Totally a personal preference!!! With my first I told everyone as soon as I got the positive (and then in hindsight wished I had waited because it felt like the longest pregnancy ever lol) but was nice to share my excitement with everyone! My second I told my family at 8 weeks and friends at 10 weeks (found out at 10 weeks and 4 days at my ultrasound that we were going to miscarry) and in that scenario I was glad people knew as their support was just what I needed to get me through the difficult process. I plan to wait until after the dating ultrasound with my next pregnancy now; that being said I will HAVE to tell someone (my mom or gf etc!) so that I have someone to talk to about any excitement, doubts, or worry to help keep me sane! It's your own personal experience, do whatever makes you comfortable, and enjoy the ride!! Congratulations!!! It would certainly make a wonderful Christmas surprise!!!

I told my parents when I got a positive test. Waited to tell others until about 8 weeks when we confirmed heartbeat on ultrasound. Not to freak you out at all, but here is my experience. I had a mc at 12 weeks. I don't regret AT ALL sharing the news that we were expecting. I had so much love and support when I lost the baby because I had previously shared the good news. I was told by my doctor that I was "out of the woods" around 8 weeks. So...to me, there's no "safe time". But I encourage you to still share with your family. We didn't announce the pregnancy on fb or anything, but you won't regret telling your family and close friends. Congrats to you!!

Thank you all your advice!  We did tell our parents and sisters.  And our grandparents.  We also told them we wanted to wait for that first ultrasound before making a full announcement.  Needless to say they are very excited.  Now I just hope everything goes ok and our baby stays with us for the long haul!  Thank you again!

The chance for a miscarriage drops significantly after 12 weeks, so we waited as long as we could. We told immediate family members when I was like 8 weeks, and after that we really only told people if they asked. I wasn't skinny to begin with, so my fat kind of hid the pregnancy. People I worked with were amazed when they found out I was 7 months pregnant lol

I think telling family is ok. Because God forbid you do lose your child , you would probably tell your family after anyways ...just let them know it's still in the early stages so it's not something u want announced yet . Or just tel your parents only

Tell immediate family but others wait til later. My twin told immediate family 1st then waited 2 months before telling everyone. She was in fear of something happening if she told everyone about it. Best of luck!!

We told our parents at about 6 weeks, siblings at 8 weeks, and everyone else at 12 weeks. It's totally up to you though! I know a lot of people who have announced it as soon as they got a positive test!

We told our families at 7 weeks, it's really up to what you prefer. We were scared as well to tell everyone so early but they are our family and we wanted them to know...even if something did happen to our baby!

My parents knew around 6 weeks. My best friend knew a couple weeks later. I didn't announce on fb until around 14 weeks. I figured if something happened I would definitely want my parents and best friend for support.
