Why do people suck so much

Obviously not all people.

We paid a guy to do some work for us, we've used him before. We paid him upfront and to buy a stock item for us. He got into a car accident on the way to the job and never completed the work.

Now we need to get him to do more work for us, but he's saying we need to pay him again?! Reason being is that he incurred medical expenses due to the accident while on his way to us. HONESTLY, smh.
