Thyroid Issues preventing pregnancy?

Question

Hello all! Just curious if anyone out there with hypothyroidism (lack of sufficient thyroid hormone) has experienced difficulty in getting pregnant directly because of this issue. Has anyone had a Dr. tell them that this condition could cause infertility complications? I know hypothyroidism is a common condition, if anyone out there has it and has any feedback on this I would be so grateful. Feeling kinda down after a phone call I just got from my Dr.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism earlier in the year and told that it causes infertility especially because I had irregular periods and we thought I wasn't ovulating. But... once my levels were corrected (my thyroid stays at a 1.2) my periods started returning like clockwork. And needless to say, my husband and I conceived in May and I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant.

The main thing I've heard is making sure you continue to take your medication and make sure your levels are in the correct area they should be. Because even if when you become pregnant you have a high chance of miscarriage if your levels are not in a good area.

Hypothyroidism does make it harder to get pregnant but... try not to stress and just have fun with it. I would also talk to an endocrinologist about concieving and an obgyn that's on board with helping you as much as possible to concieve.

I have hypothyroidism and am TTC. My mom hasn't been diagnosed, but we are pretty sure she does - she has 3 kids. My grandmother had to have part of hers removed because it was so bad - had 2 kids (that's all she wanted). My great grandmother was on synthroid til her dying day - she had 8 kids. Other members of my family have had it too, and still have perfect families. This is not an infertility sentence. It just means we have to try a little harder. 😊

I had trouble conceiving because of undiagnosed hypothyroidism. Once I got on medication things got better and within 3 months we conceived a healthy and happy baby boy. He's now 15 months and I'm pregnant again. Get medication and get it corrected! Good luck and baby dust!

I have Hashimoto's disease. Once I got my levels regulated I had no issues concieving. I'm currently 35 weeks.

I was diagnosed earlier this year. My understanding is that it can cause you to have trouble ttc if left untreated. Once you find the correct treatment (type of med that you feel best with and dosage) then it shouldn't be a huge problem as long as it's monitored.
