Doctor recommended rice for babys bottles?

My baby recently has started throwing up almost everytime she eats like projectile everywhere. So I took her to her pediatrician today & he said to start adding rice to her baby bottles, to thicken it so she doesn’t throw it back up. But isn’t rice a chocking hazard? She’s only 7 weeks old. When I questioned it he said the rice in bottles helps reflux babys keep food down.

Please please please don’t do this. This is absolutely a dangerous choking aspiration hazard and should never be done nor advised. That dr is down right wrong. Rice cereal alone is not healthy at all either, nor should a 7wk old be starting solids at all. Way way way too young. There are other alternatives for this. Pace feeding for sure.

Amounts are for breastmilk BUT the feeding concept is still the same for all bottle fed babes.

This seems really odd. There’s safe formula out there with a rice additives to make it somewhat thicker (just a very very little thicker than regular formula) and is meant to prevent spit up.  They should have recommended different formulas

It’s better to try other formulas, pace feeding, different bottles, smaller feeds, more burping, and even medication rather than adding that to bottles.  Id find a new doctor that doesn’t jump to a 1960s method of treatment for future appointments

I would be nervous to do that. My babies have bad reflux, we are on Similac Spit up, it has a rice starch base so it helps keep the formula in the stomach. Maybe try that and see what happens
