After having abnormal results from my genetic screen, I saw MFM today for an emergency anatomy scan at 13+2. The doctor said that I have an 86% of Downs Syndrome for BOTH of my identical twins based on genetic screening alone. They were thought to be fraternal twins at first, but he confirmed they were identical. My anatomy scan also had positive markers for Downs along with fluid around their hearts and brains. He said the lethality of their condition is 100% and should they survive the pregnancy, they would not survive long thereafter. There is now an additional risk to me as well. He said in his 20 years of practice he has NEVER seen an identical twin pregnancy with Downs. Honestly, I was hit with so much information that I am completely overwhelmed. While I was not pushed to make the decision, it was told that this pregnancy shows no promises for any better outcome. I’ve spent the morning having a panic attack in the office, the day crying and the afternoon on the phone with the NAF for medical termination. Anything positive, encouraging or prayers are welcome. ***They both have hydrops.***
