Killing your child’s dreams. Is this response a fair consequence?

I saw this article and immediately loved it. Just thinking about your children wanting to have a certain career path and you as a parent fostering that imagination. Sometimes that’s not the case.

Have you ever shot down the dreams of your child? If so why? If you would never do such a thing what is your response to parents who do?

He made this promise to his mom at 12 years old and has stuck by it. Was it a justified response or is it slightly petty?
