IUD vs Pill???

Question

Looking at my birth control options and helping with heavy bleeding... For those that have tried either of these options why did you choose one over the other, I'm looking at getting an IUD just for the ease of not having to worry about taking a pill everyday

I was on the pill for like 2ish years and have had an IUD for almost a year. The IUD is far superior to the pill.

1. You don't have to remember a pill everyday (great when you're busy or forgetful
2. No estrogen (Mirena just has progestin)
3. Lasts 5 years
4. Cheaper in the long run
5. More effective than the pill (since there's no human error)

I used to be on the pill. I liked it, until I got off and realized that the pills made me gain a lot of water weight and we're making me extremely depressed. I made the switch to the Copper IUD earlier this month and I LOVE it! It's nonhoromonal, so no weight gain or anything like that. Insertion really wasn't that bad, and I've had cramping maybe once or twice since. Also my first period was a bit heavier than normal, but not by much.

I have the copper IUD and I've never been on hormonal BC, but I can attest to that having an IUD that you don't have to think about everyday is wonderful! I've also heard that Mirena and Skyla do a pretty good job at making periods light and sometimes stopping them completely which sounds amazing, but i was excited for paragard to last twice as long without hormones. But I'd suggest you stay away from copper IUD since it's well known to make periods heavier.

I'm currently taking the pill. I started taking it mostly because my periods were super irregular and I had pretty heavy bleeding. I would go anywhere from 2-7 months without a period and it was more of a hassle than actually dealing with it every month. So far I've been regular and have had lighter bleeding. To remember to take it every day I set a reminder on my phone for 9 pm every night. I know a couple people who have the IUD but they've complained about it. Honestly I can't remember exactly what problems they were having though. Hope this helps!
