Fertility Workup

So after ttc for over 3 years, my husband and I are finally taking a step and making some necessary appointments to find out what the deal is. Has anyone had a 'fertility Workup' before? Is this the best first step I should take? Ttc on our own obviously isn't working so I'm hoping this will give me some answers!
