What was your parent situation growing up

None of my friends, and not many kids from my school, have two married *HAPPY* parents, wondering how common it is

My parents divorced when I was 2, and to this day, are the best of friends! So much so that my younger siblings (not my dads kids), call him Uncle Mike and he’s always been at every family function my mom has hosted, he still talks to my moms parents, the whole nine yards. Divorcing was the healthiest thing they could have done for our family and now they both thoroughly enjoy spending time together with my 2 sons and watching them grow. I got very lucky with my parents!

It’s sadly common & as much as many don’t want to admit it it definitely effects the child/person involved. I only had my mother around my whole life. The daddy issues I had got worse the older I got & it was difficult to get out of them. I made it a goal to get with a man & start a family with a man that I know I can have a family & trust to raise a child with, I wouldn’t want my kid to go through what I did. 
Single parents are strong & amazing but it’s hard on them & the kids.

My dad was a piece of shir who verbally and emotionally abused all of us for years before he abandoned us when I was 15, with two younger sisters aged 10 and 5. My mom fought for years to have child support from him.

My parents had issues from day one. They didn’t divorce  until all us kids were adults, mainly because my mom was afraid/unable to raise 5 kids entirely alone. I haven’t spoken to my dad in 6-8 years. The damage he’s caused me still affects me to this day and I’m nearly 27 years old now. Ironically my parents are on passably good terms now, and speak over the phone periodically. I personally cannot get far away enough from my dad and his toxicity.

My parents are honestly the sweetest couple. All my friends’ parents were either divorced or pretty unhappy in their marriages when we were growing up - my house was always the escape for my friends. Nothing has changed...they’re in their 50s and still so cute together.
