How to skip a period?

So I know it probably isn't healthy do stop a natural function but my period is supposed to come this month on the 23rd. We are going with boyfriends parents out of town and the last thing I want is to be having to worry about dealing with my uncontrollable bleeding self. 
I have heard that if you are on birth control, specifically the pill (which I am), that you can skip a period somehow. Something about not taking the brown pills??

The 5 or 7 different colored pills are usually sugar or iron supplements. Instead of taking them, start your next birth control pack.

Instead of taking the placebo pills, you start taking the next pack of active pills. You may or may not spot. Some people do, some don't. It's probably more likely to experience spotting if you haven't been on the pill for very long.

To skip a period you'd skip the break/placebo pills and start the next pack of hormonal pills right away.

You take all the sugar pills (idk what pill you have but they're the pills I'm on when I have my period) in the 1 day and it skips. Just a warning it just stuff up your period for at least 2 months after whilst it try's to get back into habit. I had mine like 2 times in 1 month
