How do I get my toddler to poop in toilet?

My 2 and a half year old is doing great with potty training.  He pees in toilet with no issues. BUT he won't poop in it. There's been a couple of times where he has but most times he just poops in underwear. Sometimes he even goes and hides where I'm not looking. I have asked if he wants to go potty and he says no and tells me he has to go potty after he's already done so in underwear. How do I encourage him to poop in toilet? This is also another reason why I put pull ups on him when we're out and about. Also how does everyone handle the whole potty training when out and about? Where there may not be a restroom nearby?

i agree with cleaning up his own mess, we did that for my son. any time he’d potty in his pants we’d have him take it to the toilet and flush it. but it also took me realizing when and why he was having a hard time going poo, was he really focused on his game ? did he not want to interrupt me/was i too busy to notice ? did i forget to make sure he went before we left ? when i noticed a pattern of where/when he was going i was able to give gentle reminders. like “hey we’re having SO much fun playing blocks, i noticed you’re kinda wiggling around like you have to go potty. let’s take a break to go potty and then we can XYZ !” or coming up with code words so i know when he needs my attention to go, he’ll scream “chicken nuggets” lol
as for out and about we have a training potty and extra undies/pants (socks too) in our cars for him to use

I’m in the same boat. Age and everything! I bribed him today, so we’ll see how that goes. I think my son’s problem is not wanting to sit still long enough to go. I hose his dirty undies off outside (him too sometimes 😂) which he finds fun, so having him clean up is pointless. 
As for out and about, I just take about 3 changes of clothes with me and just take him to potty when we come across one. I have the scented bags for accidents so my car doesn’t get smelly.

I’m still on the first phase and struggling 😭😭 my sons about to be 3 and still refuse to PEE in the toilet. He did a couple of times when he first turned 2 then he just said fuck it. He never wants to stay on the potty longer than 5mins and he ALWAYS says he doesn’t have to use it when he does . I tried having him wear underwear until he gets tired of wetting his self but he doesn’t care.

My son went through a phase of this too and I took the advice from a friend on having him clean the mess. So basically anytime he did soil his underwear I'd make him dump what he can into the toilet, then wash/rinse them out in the sink and throw them into the washer. At first inthiugjt this was going to be cruel, like what?!!! But honestly it worked. And like my husband said, it shows him responsibility. After a week he learned that no, he needs to go into the toilet. I also got him a stool so when he does have to poop he can put his feet on it and it helps him go. 
As far as being out and about I'd always make sure he went before we left, and he would tell me if he had to go or not so if I needed to stop at a gas station or on the side of the road somewhere we would 🤷‍♀️
