Mirena IUD Removal & Replacement

I had my IUD removed and replaced just yesterday. I had to replace it due to a slight misplacement of it in my endometrium in my lower uterine segment.

I had my first IUD placed in Oct 2019, but ever since an ultrasound I got done back in February or March 2021, I had some slight pinching and wanted to get it replaced before it worsened or moved again.

I heard that IUD removal hurts less than insertion, which was true for my case, but when they were putting a new one in it hurt way worse than my first insertion. I cried this time because the pain was more intensified and felt like it lasted longer than before.

Because of that, I feel that once this IUD reaches its “expiration date”, I won’t be getting a new one put in. I don’t want to go through that again. So this is my last one! (unless I change my mind when the time comes; damn birth control makes me crawl back to it cuz I don’t want to get pregnant)

On the bright side, I got to keep my old IUD. 😃 I asked if I could have it because I want to make it into a necklace. (put a pen next to it for size comparison)

Another good thing is that I am barely spotting and have little cramping after this new insertion. My first insertion left me with severe cramps a few days after with bleeding that lasted 2 months.

Just wanted to share my experience for anyone who is going through something similar, is considering getting the IUD, or has to replace theirs for the first time soon!
