Do you think less people would support the dairy/meat industry if they were educated about it?
I never thought that I'd be turning away from meat and possibly dairy at some point and it wasn't for ethical reasons but now that I'm looking into everything I'm realizing just how bad it really is.
I originally cut out meat because of the environmental crisis we're facing and the huge amount of damage the meat industry is doing to the environment, but I haven't cut out dairy yet. I have been reading about both the environmental impact of dairy farming and how unethical the practice is and I'm hoping to soon switch away from consuming dairy too.
But before this I honestly didn't have a clue how bad meat and dairy farming is for the environment and how unethical it is.
Now that I've read so much about it I can see why others don't care: so many literally don't know. In kids books they show farming as this cute little practice with five animals on a family farm. In schools they don't teach anything about what really happens on farms. Most people don't know anything about the natural habits of these animals, for example how long a cow and calf would stay together in the wild. Many people still don't know that the dairy and meat industry is one of the leading causes of global warming, deforestation and environmental impact.
Is the solution truthfulness and education? Would more people make a different choice if they knew there was a good reason to make a different choice?
