Health insurance finally approved me for migraine injections
After being denied the first time, my doctor appealed and I signed off and just got the call from the insurance company today that I was approved for the migraine injection Amivig!
I suffer from migraines. I've had headaches starting in the 6th grade and they eventually turned into migraines a few years ago. I get them everyday. Literally. After being on medication after medication over the years and nothing working, I had to put my foot down so my primary care doctor would refer me to a neurologist.
When we found one, the receptionist at the headache center asked questions to see if I would qualify for the neurologist or the headache specialist. The headache specialist will focus only on the migraine itself, the causes, trying to find treatment etc vs the neurologist who will focus on the brain, nerves, muscles etc. I qualified for the headache specialist because I said yes to every question.
They sent a lot of paperwork and one was a chart that listed each month and the days. Everyday I would have to write down my pain level 0-10 with 10 being the worst. I knew my estimate of migraines was close but when I actually started charting, I average 15-20 migraines a month some months more some less. There are even months where I go 2 weeks straight with no days off. Don't forget about the nausea. Worst combo ever.
According to my doctor, Amivig has a high success rate so I'm hoping this works for me and I can start living my life and not be sick all of the time. Now I'm just waiting for my doctor to send over the prescription so I can get started. Wish me luck!
