Yes and no
The tearing doesn’t occur after birth, but during delivery.
I’ve given birth vaginally 4 times. My first delivery was by far the worst for me. I tore up into my urethra and down half way through my perineum. My second and third labors weren’t as traumatic because I had minor tearing.
What happened in my 4th delivery completely prevented tearing all together. I spoke with my doctor (40+ years in obstetrics) about my previous experiences and he recommended inserting evening primrose oil into my vagina beginning at 34 weeks. And we also agreed to a birth plan that allowed for me to not push until after her head was out because of the fact that the majority of tearing is preventable when you’re not pushing to deliver the head. This is actually a practice a lot of midwifes use to reduce tearing or need for episiotomies.
We allowed my body to do its natural process and allowed her head to birth without pushing, your body will naturally bring the baby’s head down and out and pushing during that stage isn’t absolutely necessary. And allowing it to stretch without the extra force can prevent unnecessary tearing. After her head was out, it took one big long push and she slid out without a single tear in my perineum. The recovery from her birth was also so much easier because I was sore but I wasn’t in so much pain since I didn’t have tearing or stitches. Talk to your obstetrician about your concerns,

I didn’t tear with any of my three kids. & I think the only thing they really did was help guide the baby out, I think my second pregnancy the midwife actually used lube to kind of help? If that makes sense.

I did have a 2nd degree tear. I know it sounds so scary, but it honestly wasn’t that bad for me. Being big pregnant in 3rd trimester hurt worse to me than recovering from the 2nd degree tear. I’m sure others have it worse and have different experiences, but I thought I’d share at least one “positive” experience (if you can call it that lol) with a tear. I was even ready to have sex by the 6 week mark. It was slightly uncomfortable, but not much.
