I need some advice.. if you and your s/o eloped, would you be willing to share your story and why?

My SO and I are talking about eloping but I care way too much about my family's approval, and they have never approved of him, but I know he's my person. I'm so torn on what to do, but I know I want to be with him forever. It's been almost 4.5 years together.

We got married at the courthouse one random day of our choosing. We told everyone afterwards. It was awesome no stress and at first my family I was joking when I told them I was married. Lmaooo.

My family was the same way!! Didn't approve, we just went down to the courthouse one day and got married. Afterwards told my family, only one person congratulated me. Funny thing is after 3 almost 4 years of them not caring for my SO at all. They finally started to approve of him a couple months after we eloped 😆 they're not 💯 there yet but they've definitely warmed up alot more and aren't being so shitty to him. Either way it's your life, I understand approval feels great of course you want everyone to get along and love each other, but when it comes down to it, it's your life if you love someone you love someone 💜

Yup eloped at the courthouse after 5 years together :) 
My family does love my husband but I just didn’t want to spend all that money on a wedding, I wanted to spend it traveling, And we did for the last two years before getting pregnant :) would do it all over again! 
No one had an issue with it but even if they did I would tell them the day is NOT about them anyways! (:

Our families can’t act right at gatherings so we decided to do it stress and drama free. Plus, we both view getting married as something that should just be the couple anyway, since it will be just you two until death. It’s a unity, not a show. But, of course that’s just how we see it.

My husband and I eloped without telling anyone. My family was very mad when they found out. My siblings shunned me for a while. But it was the best day of my life and I don’t regret it one bit. Our wedding day was 100% just about us & our love. We didn’t care about anything else, just getting married and being together. 😊

We Eloped due to Covid. 4+ years together and a 6 month engagement. 
When planning our “wedding” we originally wanted to go all out, then the Covid restrictions started cracking down. The venues we were looking at (HTX area) we’re all reduced .5 to .25 capacity and still the same price as If the whole place was jam packed. I get it it’s the same venue so we have to pay the same price l, even if we’re only allowed 1/2 the people. BUUUUUT where it really got us was no buffet style catering and no self serve anything! So we then would’ve had to pay for server, and bartenders, and go through a list of caterers they selected (when outside food and drinks were once a personal discretion) at the end of it all it ended up costing DOUBLE the regular price for HALF the people! 
Feeling completely defeated we called off the wedding planning and My best friend got ordained and we held a 3 persons (us and her) private exchange of vows and license signing. A week after that we decided to book a reservation at a Brazilian Steak House, I got a cheap dress and he got a suit and we only invited close friends and family.  Less than 15 people, great food, great service and no stress or drama! We ended up saving over thousands and as per HIS request will be doing a traditional style wedding as a vow renewal in 5-10 years 
(16-19 when we met, 19-22 when we married and 20-23 now) 
 
And yes, we still had a honeymoon 5 days in The Smokey Mountains! Love it there!

We got married on a Tuesday at this little chapel near my house.  I didn’t tell my family for a year!  They were so pissed, especially my mom.  That was 12 years ago.  If I could go back in fine, I would have a proper wedding.  I am the o ly one of my moms kids that got married and she didn’t even get to see it.  I was going to renew my bows and do a proper wedding then but sue passed away before I could do that and I just lost interest.
But I was going and in love and crazy.  My family didn’t understand.  I mean, I did meet my guy online back when that was unheard of and I moved in with him after only a few months of dating.  It was all so crazy. But we have been together for 16 years tot so it all worked.  My family came to accept and love my husband.  But yea, o do regret eloping.

We eloped. We got married at the courthouse on a whim. We had very minimal support from his family- his mom was an angel but everyone else said things like “you’re making a mistake!!” “Sign a prenup!!” (We we’re broke 19&17 lol prenup for what..) just a lot of hateful things. We went ahead and got married and we’re about to celebrate our 3 year anniversary and we have a 5 month old baby girl. I wouldn’t change it. We saved a lot of money doing it that way and a lot of family drama. It was great.

We *kinda* did elope, and looking back, I really wish we 100% did… 
I always dreamed of a big gorgeous wedding, and initially, that’s what we were planning on doing, but religious differences in family starting making things wayyy more complicated & expensive venue-wise, then we got pregnant, so we did just elope at the courthouse, but were still wanting to do *something* for a wedding. We ended up doing a park reception a few months later, and in theory, it sounded like a simple perfect way to celebrate our marriage (and our new baby!) but I caved to some outward pressure, so it was very rushed and not well planned, and ended up honestly just being a giant complicated disaster. Literally everything that could have went wrong, did. Not even exaggerating. I should look back on my wedding/marriage/celebration/etc with happy memories and adore my ‘beginning of forever’ but instead it breaks my heart and Ive passionately avoided every wedding-related thing I come across ever since. It really hurt me that things went so sour. And I keep this all to myself because I don’t want to upset or offend anyone who tried to help and seem petty or ungrateful, but it truly was just a stressful, bad day. 
Basically, if you’re being pressured in any way about any thing, just elope and make the day 100% about you, your husband, and your love together. Nobody else really matters anyway. You can still get dressed up, hire a photographer, and eat fancy cake if you like! I wish with all my heart that’s what we had did. Best of luck.
