Friends to dating?

I have a dance partner who I am also friends with and everyone thinks we should be together. I started to look at the situation and realized that I might be holding myself back because I don’t want there to be awkwardness. We’ve known each other for 2 years and while we’re dancing we connect and understand each other so well that others even commented on that.

Should I make a move? Ask common friends to learn if he has any interest in me? Or how can I understand whether he has feelings for me or I can make sure that I have feelings for him?
