December 2019 in the UK a tragic case happened where a young mother left her baby alone in her flat for 6 days whilst she went to celebrate her 18th birthday. Her baby was 20 months old. She was sentenced recently, and got 9 years and only has to serve 2/3 of that with the remaining time on license. The reports say that this was not a one off incident, there were many other times she left her baby unattended. The mother reportedly had a troubled childhood and ran away from home a lot when she was 14. I attached this article which goes into more details about the case.

What is peoples thoughts on this? Do you sympathise with the mother and think maybe she was battling mental health and couldn’t cope? Or is she just pure evil? Is 6 years jail time really enough? Do you think the staff are responsible since she was living in a mother and baby unit? She will be out when she’s 25 and could easily have more children.
