Is this normal? 35 weeks today my whole ankle is swollen .

My ankles have been swelling up the same way for the past two weeks. I spoke to a midwife friend who’s very experienced (is also a retired nurse) and she said extreme swelling can be a sign that the liver and kidneys are struggling. Drink a gallon of water a day, up your fruit and veggie intakes and if possible quit refined sugars completely. I followed her advice this week and went on afternoon walks (even when I was swollen) and the past few days, I’ve noticed less swelling. She also said that fast food was the worse so to try to avoid it but I didn’t want to change EVERYTHING about my diet lol I eat a salad or fruit with all my meals and snack on veggies AND Im avoiding desserts and anything sugary 🙈 that’s enough of a change for me lol

One sided swelling should always be checked. It can be a blood clot or gout. It can also be nothing but should be checked to be sure.

Swelling can be normal but if it’s only one ankle and not the other you want to call your OB and tell them you have unilateral swelling. They will probably want to check you.

It is “normal” per say as you are carrying around the extra weight and towards the end of pregnancy I know swelling is common. Although it might be worth to mention to your doctor as I do know swelling can also be the first sign of preeclampsia, always better safe than sorry.
