Is it common for Ob made a second incision for a planned C-section?

I was just curious if this has happened to anyone else. Last Friday I had a scheduled C-section and after they had prepped me for surgery, my OB peered over the drapes to tell me that my previous scar was really low and close to the bone so he was going to be making a new incision because he was worried about bone infection. Mind you this is my 3rd and probably last C-section. Is this common practice? Does anyone else have multiple scars? All I can say is the recovery for this C-section has been hard and has definitely left me in tears a couple times now. This incision is bigger than my old scar and delivered my smallest baby.
