Birthday gifts ideas for 4 year old girl

I am not a big fan of toys like barbies, little people which are everywhere and are played with only once and take so much space when they pile up. I love education toys which have actual purpose. I can never find anything interesting in Walmart or Target and would love to come up with something cool but not crazy expensive. Any ideas of these kind of toys? She loves to draw/paint if that helps. Thank you so much for your help, I am horrible gift buyer.
