Right thing or am I a snitch😞😞😞

I talked about this boy I've liked at my school since Freshman year and we are all seniors now. He's 18, I'm 19. Everyone calls him headphones because he wears big bright pink headphones all the time. He used to get in trouble for not taking them off but the teachers leave him alone about it now. He mainly listens to music and reads. If he isn't in class those headphones are plugged into his phone if he's in class he has to have the wire on his desk to prove he doesn't have them plugged in so he can keep wearing them. He's not a talker at ALL. Some suggested he may have sensory issues and that's why he always wears them. I really wanted to try to talk to him so I sat with him at lunch. He was reading a book called "Asylum". I asked what he was listening to and he unplugged his phone and it played "Welcome to my life", but simple plan. I asked what kind of music he listens to. He showed me his Spotify which had several playlists and they were all titled about emotions. One playlist was Happy, one was Sad, Mad, Stressed, Loved, etc. Well Headphones was listening to a playlist titled overwhelmed. So I'm thinking he listens to a playlist based on his emotions? But he let me sit there listening to his music. After the bell rand he said "See you later" and he hardly ever talks! I was happy. On the way to class I hear commotion and Headphones is covering his ears having a panic attack and he wasn't wearing his headphones. I heard a teacher say someone ripped the off his head and whoever did better fess up. Nobody did so headphones wasn't in class and I see a group of kids in my class with hot pink headphones and I knew who they belonged to. They were laughing about it and said they were gonna destroy them after class and leave them in his desk for tomorrow... So I asked to be excused and told the guidance counselor... They got in trouble and word got around that I did it. So now everyone is calling me a snitch. On the bus people kept saying snitch. Only good thing was as the bus was driving I saw Headphones on the bench reading and he had his headphones and he waved at me and smiled. I did the right thing right? Even if everyone hates me...
