What did you do to make your childrens’ summer fun?

Question

I sometimes feel like I should proactively plan more fun for the kids, but I also love just letting them play in the yard and make their own fun with the sprinkler, kiddie pool, bubbles, chalk, etc. 
What did you do with your kids to make their summer a fun one? Would love ideas!

Bought a slip and slide for $11 at Walmart. 
Made a few trips to fosters freeze for dipped cones. 
Drove to the beach a couple of times. 
I’m not a cruise director, so that’s as far as I took it. They can entertain themselves, summers are for getting bored and then finding creative ways to not be bored. 🤷🏼‍♀️

A day in the zoo, visited their grandparents on both side, went to the beach a few times, played in the garden. Ate plenty of ice-cream and relaxed. 
I personally think that's plenty - don't need (or should at this time) to do crazy large holidays far away with things planned each day for it to be a good vacation.

We have freezer pops, went swimming and had dinner at the lake a few nights a week, lots of long weekends to my parent’s house in the country to work in their garden, explore the streams, stay up late to see fireflies and stars. We did a few concerts where we knew we could distance on the lawn. He’s 2.5, so not a lot different than regular life, but we’re also in the middle of a pandemic, so it’s not like there’s a ton that’s particularly safe at this point 🤷🏼‍♀️

- cooking bingo (found on Pinterest maybe, each cousin had one and got prizes for making the foods to create a bingo).

We don't have a ton of money. And, even though I'm a teacher with summers "off" 🙄, I still work full time at another job.
