Twirling hair?

My toddler won’t stop twirling her hair. She has gotten her finger completely caught before. She also is constantly getting it knotted . I have no idea what to do.

My son doesn’t have almost any hair, so he does this to mine CONSTANTLY. Sometimes he gets just the right small hair or tugs pretty hard and it hurts! I haven’t found a great way to stop it yet... I even tried to give him an extra hairy stuffed animal. 😅

I'm 40 and still twirl my hair. My oldest daughter does the same. My mother also does the same. All of us since we were babies.

I used to do this when I was really little too. It was comforting to me for some reason and I liked doing it when I was feeling sleepy.

My parents said my sister used to do this when she was tired. She did not grow out of it
