Getting sick if you shower before going out ?

Does anyone believe in that wives tale that if you shower and have wet hair before heading out into the cold is bad for you or you'll get sick?

While the cold weather does create a more habitable environment for germs that cause rhinitis (or common cold viruses), wet hair does not effect how likely you are to catch said cold. Hand hygiene and proper couching and sneezing hygiene (covering your mouth/nose) will help prevent the spread of colds and flu.

If I ever wash my hair and go to sleep with it still wet, I always wake up with a very sore throat that usually ends in strep and ear infections. I've always had a crap immune system so I'm sure that it's not extremely common for everyone but it's true for me!

Being exposed to cold can lower your immune system which may lead to a cold. But for most healthy people simply being cold is not enough. You'd have to get really cold for it to affect you

I have really, really long hair, so I try to have it at least partially dry before I go outside in the winter, but haven't noticed that I makes me sick...just cold. I have noticed, though, if I leave the window open at night I invariably wake up sniffly/stuffy.
