Do you use stair gates?

I know some people who do use stair gates and some people who don't. 
My daughter can go up and down the stairs by herself but I'm undecided whether to put a stair gate on her bedroom as we are moving her from a cot to a bed.

If you don’t gate the stairs I would at least gate her bedroom door so that she can’t get out at night while you’re sleeping.

We do have stairgates, not because he's not capable to use stairs or because he's not careful around the stairs, because he usually is.. But mostly because accidents happen.. He can be distracted, following something or someone and not being carefull. He can misplace his feet or stumble or trip...

We have them at top and bottom. 22 month old can do stairs alone so it’s more to confine him to one floor or the other. Obviously I don’t trust him roaming opposite floor than where I’m at. And 6 1/2 month old will be crawling soon and need to be kept off them. Once they’re both toddlers that can play in their own rooms etc and need access to bathrooms we will remove gates.

I have one at the top of my basement stairs and that’s all.
