Natural birth(no epidural) question

For those that had a natural birth with no epidural, how do you not freak out when pushing? I plan to get an epidural, but with my last baby it didn't work very well. Somehow, I still didn't feel much pain when pushing. I just want to prepare myself for if it fails completely this time. I have bad anxiety.. Thanks!
