Early Labor & Suggestions

So as of Tuesday, I was 39 weeks & 2 cm dilated. Made leaps and bounds from my 38 week check, as the Doc said this little guy was quite comfy & I was still pretty tight & no signs of effacement. I lost my mucus plug today and have been having contractions sporadically. I'm just curious how early labor played out for any of you? With my first I was almost a week late & barely dilated. This time around I think he is running the show. Any suggestions on helping him along? I'm not really in a rush, and of course I know he's on his own itinerary lol but I wouldn't mind being proactive about it either. Thanks! :)
