Ways to save ?

I have a bad habit on spending money. I just love doing online shopping but I also want to maintain and save majority of my money too. I did hear about the envelope challenge which seems about interesting but a lot people do it so differently. Is there any other ideas ? How much you think is a good amount to save ?

I have an online bank savings account. I set up recurring transfers that happen on pay week.That way I never really see that money. When I get a raise I up the amount I transfer every 2 weeks. The interest online banks pay is higher than traditional banks AND I cut up the debit card so the only way I can get money from my savings is to transfer to my traditional bank account, which takes time.The time it takes helps to curb spontaneous spending. Next, I research before I buy an big ticket items before I buy them. it's worth the extra time.

I have a certain dollar amount direct deposited into my savings automatically each pay period. It never touches my checking account so I don’t think about it at all. Just fill out your pay directives form to start that process.

My husband and I have it to where our bank automatically saves 10% of the pay check to savings. Then we just ignore the savings account and don't even think about it being an option to get money out of unless we absolutely need to.

We set a monthly budget and then don't spend over it. We save absolutely as much as we can. Our "fun money" is usually $100 or less per month. There are no huge magic tricks, but having a plan is important. Then you have to stick to it. It just takes dedication.

Are used to do 20% of your paycheck into a separate account on auto pay, or depending how much you make, 200 automatically into a savings account, there’s all kinds of ways to save money, I used to pay for everything with cash, and anything that was five dollars and under, would go into a jar loose change, singles and fives, and it would accumulate rather quickly, that’s why I used to go to concerts when I was younger, I would have like $3000 saved by the summer time and I could go to whatever I wanted. As an adult, I do savings apps, coupons, Like Rakuten and Ibotta. For in store and online purchases, you link your credit cards and debit cards, and when you make a purchase you get a percentage back depending on the store, who are you upload receipts, another thing I do is CVS has their own monthly payment club type of thing, you can either do it annually or monthly you pay like five dollars and some change, you get a $10 reward each month the day you sign up so for me would be the 19th, and they always have digital coupons, you can also bring Manufactures coupons, and you can always double up on coupons as well on their app, before you go shopping you add all the coupons digitally, and they always have percentages off, 40% off, 30% off, anything that’s not on sale, so if I was buying say a box of diapers that was $30, I would use my $10 reward, I would use my 30 or 40% off, I would have it in their app they always have coupons say five dollars off 25 save whatever off 30 or 40, so it’s coupon on top of coupon on top of coupon, so a box of $32 diapers is now anywhere from 4.00 dollars to 18 at Max￼. On top of bed any of your spending you get 2% back, what you add to your account also, and then you also can upload the items to Ibotta  For even more savings, I use apps like krazy coupon lady, coupons.com, coupons in your Sunday paper, and a lot of the grocery stores will also double coupon manufacturers coupons, grocery stores like ShopRite have their own digital coupons, on their app you add them before you go shopping similar to CVS, and they also take multiple coupons as well. I just get organized. It’s not hard to save money, I know with the holidays coming up it’s a little harder, there’s ways of saving money such as not buying coffee outside your house, obviously it saves money to bring your own water from home, Bring your own lunch or snacks, shopping in bulk, not eating out, cooking from whatever you actually purchase and not going out and getting pizza, bringing your own empty bottle from home, and filling up from the water cooler, or the water fountain, changing from a monthly cell phone to a prepaid, using only streaming services and not a cable package, obviously turning off lights and electricity and things like that. Only driving when it’s necessary, not just for luxury and fun, not going places where you’re tempted to shop, obviously going to target you know you’re doing well going to buy more than what you just went therefore, don’t go where you are tempted. Like an addict staying away from what causes them to trigger. Kind of obvious for an alcohol to stay out of a bar or liquor store￼￼. You figure it out. You pick up extra income, dog walking, babysitting, Uber, GrubHub, etc. temp agencies are always looking for people, holiday are coming they hiring in retail places. Etc

I have money come out of my child tax check automatically once a month, its pretty much the only time we have extra money lol. It's only 250$/month but at least that's something 🤷‍♀️ I've started really thinking about things at the store too weather I really need it or not you know?

Cash back apps. I mostly only use ibbotta, which for regular shopping is good. It doesn't take long at all to get the first 20 and it's still good even if you only do the any item offers. The others seem like a bit of time wasters unless you're really into the couponing/rebate stuff, it's not too worth it imo.
