Do you limit screen time?

Question

I personally don't limit time for my 17 month old, based on the fact he watches educational shows. His favorite are Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. I only take it away if he starts having tantrums and demanding tv. I think I'll start limiting more once it gets into the territory of shows that are not as educational, when he shoes interest in those. I'd love to hear everyone's different opinions, and also suggestions on different shows, bonus if they are educational!

Educational TV is great but there are so many more skills to develop when babies are little. They get way more out of doing than watching. We try our best to limit to less than the AAP recommendation (I think at that age it's 0-1 hour, our son is 2 and it's 2hr for his age). There are days when we have more and days when we have none.

Playing is very very essential to brain development. Another issue is over stimulation, I personally find the animation and scene switch of MMClubhouse to be too fast paced, which can lead to attention problems. I do allow tv, but limit it quite a lot. They need to be playing and doing things with their hands, learning fine motor skills, and not be over stimulated visually....if I allowed too much TV, they would be on it most of the day and not enough time and attention on developing real skills. I also think there are way better options than Clubhouse, eg numberblocks, alphablocks, abc kidtv, busy beavers....all on youtube.

We have it on in the background almost all day. Most of the time she doesn’t pay attention or just likes the music.

I wouldn’t call Mickey Mouse clubhouse educational. It teaches a few things, but not enough for me to call it educational. That being said, my son does watch it some. I also wouldn’t say I limit screen time, but that’s mostly because my son has no real interest in sitting in front of a screen. He wouldn’t even look at the tv for longer than 30 seconds until he was almost 2. He’s almost 3 now, and he watches tractor videos at bedtime. Other than that, he doesn’t really watch much tv. He likes cocomelon, curious George, cat in the hat, paw patrol, and frozen when he does watch tv. We keep the tv on animal planet a lot on the weekend in case he stops for a few min to watch.

I refuse to allow my kid to watch tv, use an iPhone or iPad. Children need to play, draw, color, imagine, create in order to properly develop. I’m not going to have my child hooked to an electronic device

We absolutely limit. I don't even own a TV so all he gets is a few cartoons a week when I absolutely need a break. I read a book called Dumbing Us Down that really opened my eyes to the way TV has destroyed our children. They are dumber and have no personalities bc they spend about as much time on TV as they do school. School is the other major culprit for making our children dumber and with less personality. The recommendation is nothing before 2 years old but really TV is so bad for everyone.

I think as long as your child is playing outside and exploring, getting bored and having tactile it's fine. 
A child learns through play and experience and "educational" or not doesn't actually mean anything at their age because they are sponges and learning so much.
