Is this true about Elmiron for bladder pain?

I went to my urologist appointment today for bladder pain and pressure. He prescribed me some Elmiron. 
My mother told me someone just told her in her office that Elmiron causes you to go blind and isn't safe to take.
I didn't know all of this or I would have asked questions!

Yes. I would not take it if you can avoid it. Some women are experiencing some extreme macular degeneration, I think? I was contacted about it. Luckily, I was only on it for a year or so on and off as a teenager. Usually it’s seen with long term usage.

Like any other medicine on the market, there are sever symptoms that can occur but isn't likely. I bet it will even tell you that if you read the instruction packet.
