If pumping how often do you pump? At 4months PP.

Question

FTM, I’m exclusively pumping. I pump every 6 hours (4 times a day) and get 7-10oz. At times I have an oversupply and I’m tired of putting breast milk in freezer and keeping track of it.  I still pump once at night. 
 I’m also tired of pumping and want to cut back a bit.  Any suggestions? Should I just godown to pumping 3 times a day?

I’m EP and I pump 4 times a day. 6am, 10am, 2pm, 8pm. I get 30oz a day. I’ve been doing 4 times a day since my LO turned 3 months old, so for two months now. My LO will be 5 months on Friday. I plan to drop to 3 pumps a day after the New Year which I will do 6am, 1pm, 8pm then. Recently I’ve had days where I only pumped 3x and I have gotten the same amount so it’s tempting to drop to 3x now but I’m trying to stick to my original plan of dropping after New Years. 
My suggestion is to first cut out the night pump, give yourself a break and get some sleep! If baby is sleeping then sleep. It will take a little while for you to adjust so your am pump will be a lot and you will be leaking but you will adjust fine. Then see how you feel at that point. If you still have enough and want to cut down day pumping that’s fine.. keep doing as much as you feasibly can but if you ultimately need to supplement that’s fine too. I would recommend not stopping cold turkey though… keep going for as long as you can, even if you ultimately get down to 2 pumps a day, and you get say 20oz total, or whatever amount, that’s fine. Many moms supplement for shortages in breast milk. Do what you feel you can do. There is no wrong choice here. Fed is best!

I EP since Day 1. I was an oversupplier and also was tired of having to pump at night and bag my milk. I cut down to 3 times a day and got about 30oz but wasn’t nearly enough for my LO a day. So I just said screw it and stopped pumping all together and put my little man in formula. Personally, it was the best decision I ever made.

Love the idea of not having to pump at night. Currently doing 4,10,4,10. I will try changing that to the 6am instead and see how it works . You’re right a gradual decline is best. Definitely won’t stop yet but also getting tired of pumping. I might stick it out till 6 months with 4 times a day like you are and then go to 3. When there is a goal it’s easier to reach!  That’s nice you’re only pumping 15-20 min and get that mount!!. That’s all I seem to have time for. I might have a fast let down too. Thank you for the advice!!

I started pumping when my LO was a month old maybe 3 to 4 times a day. In mid September I stopped cold turkey and just nursed. I don't remember having any real issues. I would pump if we went out during the day and I gave him a bottle versus a boob. Mid October I went back to work 3 days a week and on those days I pump 2 to 3 times on shift but not at all on my days off. It's been 2 weeks and that seems to be working ok. Not sure if I should Continue pumping on my off days bc I really don't want too.
