Did you breastfeed right away when baby was born?

FTM here. I was just wondering if what are the common cases after baby is born. I’m planning to do breastfeeding exclusively. And I’m afraid that milk wont come out on time or it varies on a good latch?

Milk comes in within 3-5days after birth & yes you can breastfeed right after birth of baby will get the cololstrum until milk comes in .

I do skin to skin and keep baby near my breasts basically immediately after birth. My husband caught both of them and handed them straight to me. He may hold them after I deliver the placenta and need to get out of the birth pool and into bed but that's it.  My babies have been eager to nurse pretty shortly after delivery. I just make sure as much nipple goes in their mouth as possible and that has seemed to get a good latch.  Colostrum is all they need until your milk comes in and that can take up to a week.  Let them nurse as often as possible to help establish a good supply. If baby starts to show signs of hunger (or starts to seem upset) I always offer my breast. It's really a cure all lol Breastfeeding on demand really creates a good supply. Don't let people guilt you into using formula if you don't want to. Formula can create a bad cycle since breast milk supply is based on demand. Offering a bottle can also make breastfeeding tougher because the flow is much quicker and easier.  Their bellies are like the size of a marble at first so they really don't need much. Contact a lactation consultant or your local LLL if you need more support.

They handed me all 3 babies straight from the womb lol put them on my chest and had them latch for as long as they wanted. My mature milk typically comes in around day 3 postpartum. Until then, I just feed baby colostrum constantly.

Yes. I exclusively breastfed both my children. Your milk is not meant to come right away. It takes 3 to 5 days. During that time they get colostrum, and the constant sucking sends a message to your brain instigating milk production. That period of time is important to establish your supply. You shouldn’t pump or supplement during the early weeks as it can interrupt the natural process and hurt your milk production

Right away! Milk doesn't come in for a few days but baby is feeding from your breast the whole time (colostrum) and if they aren't on your breast your milk may dry up instead of stimulate production. Baby is getting what it needs, mom is getting what she needs, all is good unless the pediatrician tells you otherwise. The in hospital lactation consultants are very helpful with this sort of education, use them!

Yes. Milk comes in within 3-5 days, but you'll produce colostrum and that is enough for baby! Don't pump. Look up different latch holds. I did the football hold, and used the sandwich grab to get my son properly latched lol. 
Baby will want to nurse constantly. This is normal and doesn't mean they're starving. "Cluster feeding" happens to everyone, and it has how baby brings your milk in, and how they regulate your supply to what they need. My son would often stayed latched forever, or nurse every 30 minutes, sometimes 15 minutes. The stretches can vary! Don't let anyone tell you that means they're starving and need a bottle. 
If you have questions or concerns, ALWAYS see a lactation consultant FIRST. Don't ask the nurses or pediatricians. Seriously. My nurses were dumb and uneducated on breastfeeding, sorry not sorry lol. And pediatricians don't know a lot about it either. A lactation consultant is trained to know exactly how to help, diagnose and give proper support and guidance. Most hospitals have one, if not, its really easy to find one.

First off congratulations on the baby! Second, your milk may not come in right away, and that’s ok. Just keep trying you will get there. And if you need a little formula to help, so be it and don’t feel bad about it! I was able to breastfeed all three of my babies right away. My son came out angry and hungry, they put him on my belly to let dad cut the cord and before he was even detached he found my nipple and latched on like a pro. My girls did not😂.Breastfeeding is a lot easier, Sometimes LOL, I know with me my emotions effected my milk on days. Also what you eat will also effect the way the milk taste, if you didn’t already know.😊
