Can you be 6cm dilated and not in labor?

Question

I’m asking because I’m 5cm dilated and 37weeks pregnant. I know I can probably be stuck at 5cm for weeks. But I seemed to dilate within the week. At 36weeks I was 3cm and 36&6days I was checked to be 5cm and 100% effaced.. 
I know every hospital is different, but how many cm dilated so you need to be to be admitted? 
How am I only feeling Braxton Hicks contractions? And not even real ones? Baby definitely wants to cook longer but keeps trying to find a way out.

I’m sure it’s possible but not common. You’re admitted at 4cm if contractions are 4-5 minutes apart. As long as you have enough amniotic fluid and everything is looking fine, I guess there’s nothing you can do but wait.

I go to Kaiser and they admit you if you’re 4cm and contractions are every 5 min
