Can your child count items & identify numbers?

Just curious where other June babies are at! Absolutely not trying to brag or make others feel bad, I'm just curious and normally they do not do this until age 3 or 4. Jaxson has started recognizing numbers - we were at the doctor yesterday & they took his oxygen and he was looking at the screen and his oxygen was 98 and he's like "that's a 9! That's an 8!" This morning he was stacking his cups that have numbers and picked one up and said "that's a 5! That's a 7!" And he saw the clock this morning and recognized it was 7 o clock. He also counts groups of objects. He had 5 balls and picked each one up and counted them all while putting them in a pile. I read online that they can't even recognize groups of things until 3 or 4, and that they recite numbers from memory at this age only, but Jaxson definitely understands quantitative analysis and not just reciting from memory. Although he could just have the shape of the numbers.memorized since we watch so many counting shows. I also have a photographic memory and a really good memory in general, I can memorize any song after hearing it twice. It's just fascinating to me 🤣

Jesse can count to 10 but sometimes will add in random things like bear, Mickey, punk, etc. 😂 He’s a really “on my own time, in my own way” kinda guy! He can’t identify numbers though visually yet- he can with colors.

Ivy can count to 20 (but gets 14 and 15 mixed up sometimes), she can count objects and recognises a few numbers and letters.

Yes. Jerome recognises numbers zero to 10. But from then he will say 1,1 for 11. But when reciting, he will count to 29. Count from 10 backwards without error. He does count his steps on the stairs and counts things. Like 3 balls. He started counting objects with counting dots on his sink stand. He recognises letters too, he will find a random sign post and spell a word as he points at each letter the but I haven't seen him spell a word with more than 10 letters. He can't read though. But has memorised his books and with the help of looking at the first letter, and a photo, he says the word making it look like he can read but he doesn't fool me. Lol, we are working on reading 3 letter words though. While it is true that kids don't usually do this before 3 or 4, it is possible to be able to do this even before 2. Depends on the exposure and the child. I have seen a kid who could spell very difficult words at 4 years and the parents said she was already spelling simple words by 2. I think internet or statistics talk about average. And each child chooses what they will learn best so you will find a kid who can't say his letters or numbers but will fascinate you with countries, or how to cook, another has perfected their hearing they can sing any key or song after hearing it once. I have seen it all. Brilliance manifests it's self in different ways. It is just about we parents celebrating their strengths and encouraging them further as we identify where they need help and we boost that too.

Junie is in aba therapy and can count to 10 as well as identifying numbers. Its amazing what his teachers are able to teach him such a short amount of time. I love it.

James can identify most of the numbers 1-10. And can count to 20. He also knows all his colors and shapes. He talks like he’s 3-4 though. You can carry on a real conversation with him about just about anything now. Lol

Aria can count to 20 (actually counting objects) and recognises numbers 1, 2 and 3. But they do it all at nursery 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 I don't do too much with her so it's all down to teachers (one morning a week) and cocomelon 😂

Yes! Rosalie can count to 20, she is able to identify numbers, can count backwards from 10 down. She's constantly counting things because she loves to stack and line things up and I mean EVERYTHING. Toys, cans, boxes, shoes, chairs on and on!

Yes, we watch a lot of counting videos. Lilly can count up to 20, backwards from 10, and will count objects like ice in her cup or balls, she has recently been counting on her fingers as well. She also knows her colors, some shapes, and recognizes all of the letters. I got a small pack of flash cards from the dollar store with random objects and she loves going through it!

Collin will count to 5. He likes to take his hot wheels and stick them between the couch cushions and say “oh no, 4 cars are stuck in the couch” or “oops two cars and one fire truck are stuck”
