Cloth diapers

Question

I’m considering using cloth diapers for my little one. Anyone have a brand to recommend that they love?

I had 18 of these, and used the same diapers on my newborn all the way through potty training at 23 months. They are seriously amazing - absorbent, soft, wash and dry so easily. Some ppl find flats intimidating, but once you use them you'll see that they are the easiest to use and clean, the most versatile, and very affordable. I used them with Thirsties covers (will add a link in another comment) and will be using all the same gear for baby #2.

I researched this topic at length and found BumGenuis to be the least likely to leak. They are pricey! You can find people selling pre-owned ones on eBay if you’re comfortable with that.

I would check out Green mountain diapers. They have some starter kits you can try out to see what style diaper works best for you. They’ve got:

Also check out YouTube video to see what system works best for you. For example, lots of people like the simplicity of All-in-ones…& those can be great if  you’re on top of laundering frequently and live in a dry climate. I live in a humid climate, so hang drying can take forever, especially in the winter here. So I’d opt for a system like flats or prefolds and use diaper covers and maybe some woolies for at night.

I had 5 of these in Size 1 for the first year or so, and then about 8 in the size 2 once she started getting too big for these. I would fold up the flat inserts according to her size (tons of videos on YT) and just lay them inside. When she was a newborn, I would do some fancy folds and hold it in place with a Snappi, but you really can get away with a simple rectangle fold. When she was older, I did start adding a Thirsties hemp insert at night underneath the bamboo/cotton flat because she started wetting through them more with sleeping longer hours.
You can reuse the covers if it was only a wet diaper, and get a new one if any poop gets on it. In this way, I would do laundry every 2-3 days.

We use Tots Bots Bamboozles and Peenut Pads, and Ella’s Bumhuggers.
I’d recommend trying a few different kinds (pockets, covers with inserts, fitted, AIO) before buying a whole set!

We used bumGenius cloth diapers and I had zero complaints! They worked really well! My daughter was on the chunkier side and I liked how adjustable they are, and how with the pocket style diapers (not the all-in-ones) you can add an extra insert, or get new ones in a different material if you want to try out a more absorbent material (like charcoal or bamboo). They also dried quicker than the all-in-one diapers that we had, since we air-dried all of our diapers.
