Story can be found at npr.org. I’ve included a few screenshots for context. The pardon and parole board recommended earlier on the month that this mans sentence be commuted to life in prison. Oklahoma Gov Stitt refused and was set to execute Jones by lethal injection this afternoon. With just hours to go, he stopped the execution after massive outcry.

While I am thrilled that Jones will not be executed today, why did Stitt refuse the recommendation of the board? Why is that in his authority? Should that he changes so that the board recommendations are followed in the future?
