I've been a teachers aid for 3 years and I'm on my second year teaching and there's something I'm still having a hard time understanding

Why do some teachers think it's appropriate to read notes between students and more so out loud to the class. I saw this in school and as a teacher and aide and I have never done this as a teacher. It's nothing but a humiliation punishment. Should kids he writing notes in class? No but what gives some teachers the right to think they get to know what was written and read it out to the whole class. If you catch a student texting do you take their phone and read it to the whole class? No. Then don't do the same with notes. The amount of times personal information has been shared to an entire class about a student because some teachers on a power trip decides to just read their notes to the whole class is sad. Two instances really set with me. One was when I was an aid for a 9th grade English class and a teacher took notes between 2 girls. She said since they look writing notes let's read it to the whole class and the whole class found out that 15 year old girl had a miscarriage. Another time was between a boy and his sister and the whole class found out he was being abused at home and was asking his sister if she could ask their dad if he could come back home. Even if you don't read their notes out loud it's none of your business what they were writing. I just take the notes away and give them back at the end of class and never read them because it's not my business. Yes it's disrespectful to write notes in the middle of teaching but it is beyond disrespectful to invade someone's privacy like that and shout and out to a bunch of judgy kids. Rant over
