When is it safe to sleep with baby in a chair or sofa?

Question

We’ve been so so diligent about not falling asleep with baby in unsafe environments. We read the research that chairs and sofas are the most dangerous for baby and parent to fall asleep together. 
But baby is 8 months old now and it’d be so nice to just catch a nap with him in the rocking chair when he’s done nursing. 
Is it ever safe? I’m fighting to keep my eyes open as I type this!

Part of the issue is if you fall asleep you could drop the baby. 
What about laying next to them on a mattress on the floor? (No blankets, no swaddling)

Personally I have since day one, I know my sleeping habits and I will use pillows or a Bobby if dropping is a concern. But I think technically it’s not safe until toddler years

So I fell asleep holding my baby on the couch, had some dream and jerked my body, and she fell on the floor. Definitely felt so bad.

Personally, I don’t think it’s safe to sleep on a chair or couch with a small child. Accidental suffocation would be my biggest concern with sharing a couch.

Sids is still a concern until 1. Even then, I personally wouldn't risk it until much older when they can wake up and alert you for any concerns.

I would fall asleep in a chair with my baby, not as a habit but sometimes. I'd only let it happen if baby was completely held and propped by my boppy, so I didn't have to worry about dropping. Cause sometimes it's just so nice to drift off with a napping baby 😅

I did from the beginning, only you would know if you could sleep without being a danger.

Not favorable opinion but we did it from the beginning. When she was smaller I would put the boppy around her and put my arms up on that keeping her on my chest. I honestly can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen asleep at night in the rocking chair while nursing, I keep th pillow/my arms a certain way around her to keep her in my lap. Weekend naps are in the lazy boy with my feet up and that’s the best nap
