Testing too early?

Just started trying to conceive this month, my period will be 3 days late tomorrow. I usually always have a 25-26 day cycle, I don’t think I’ve ever been more than a day late. The past 5 days I have been having mild cramping (not as bad as menstrual cramps) I woke up the last 3 days with the feeling that my period would be here any minute, but nothing. I took a test one day after my missed period but it was negative. I know I probably have to wait a few more days, but it is frustrating having these “period cramps” for days and nothing showing up. Just wondering if anyone has ever had period like cramps for days leading up to a positive test?
