My boyfriend "financially aborted" his child

My boyfriend got high and told me he had a biological child who he signed away his rights from or "had a financial abortion". That kind of shocked me that he just abandoned his kid and be said there were so many reasons he chose to do it. He was 18 and not ready for a child. He lost his virginity to this woman in her mid 30's and had no idea she was married. Things just got even more complicated from there. Her husband decided to stay and when they talked about custody it was obvious she was gonna have primary and he would be paying child support which he couldn't exactly afford because he was 18 and barely in college and working at Starbucks. When his son was born he at first saw him on weekends. The women's husband came to talk to him and said if he wants he can sign away his rights and he will adopt the baby. He mainly just wanted my boyfriend out of the picture so they could fix their marriage. He said he did say no at first but after a few weeks he said this kid was probably gonna grow up seeing the women and her husband as his parents since he spends a majority of his time there and the kid would have a good life living in a big house just to come to his shitty apartment on weekends. So he decided not to complicate things and signed away his rights. And the husband adopted the kid. He said his kid is 9 now and apparently the parents are now divorced but have split custody of him. He creeps up on the Facebook every once and a while to see how he's doing.... I can't tell if he did a good thing or not.

@Babbs I can definitely agree there was a lot of manipulation in their relationship. Especially since she was his boss at his job(before star bucks) because she when she found out he was a virgin she would say how no girl wants an 18 year old virgin. And she hid her marriage from EVERYONE! I guess I just couldn't imagine just giving up my baby
