Nervous to tell work I’m pregnant, advice?
So I work from home but I have a set schedule and fairly busy days. My job offers 12 weeks of unpaid leave 🙄 which I think is ridiculous. Also it’s only if you have been there for a year. I’m due at the end of April, and I will have been there a year at the beginning of April so I’ll be fine. But I’m fairly far along and I still haven’t told my boss or HR. I work from home so they can’t see my little bump or anything.
But I’m nervous that they will fire me when I tell them, or they will give me issues with getting the same pay and position back if I take the 12 weeks. Which I likely couldn’t take all of them as unpaid leave is absolutely trash and im not able to combine it with my paid vacation unless it’s on the end of the 12 weeks. I cannot afford to go three months with no paycheck. When the baby is born and I go back to work, I was planning on working at my retired dads house some days (busier days with lots of meetings) so that he could help out with baby, which he’s excited about. But about half the week I would also be caring for baby while working from home. I don’t want to tell them this. Daycare is just ridiculously expensive and with Covid I’m not comfortable with anyone but family.
Advice on how to not be nervous telling them? Also advice on how to handle the lack of paid maternity leave/being full time mom and full time work from home when baby is born? Thanks ladies
Also, I understand working and being a parent is difficult and some positions require childcare even while working from home. My job is not one of them, financially this is my only option and why I will be going to my fathers on the busier days of the week. It’s either work from home with occasional help but be primary caregiver, or put him in daycare yet not afford my rent and food.
