Season 1, 2 or 3?

Having a silly debate with my husband and was curious what you all think!
My theory is that every show that has more than 4 seasons, the best seasons are either 1, 2 or 3.
My husband disagrees and thinks the final season is usually the best.
So I’m curious, what’s your favourite shows and what season is your favourite? (Is it season 1, 2 or 3? Or a different season?)
Mine are, Sex and the City - season 3, Greys Anatomy - season 2, and American Horror Story - season 2.

The better seasons of Dexter were in the beginning, the best Office seasons were the middle, and the end seasons of Bones were my favorite.

i gotta disagree on greys, psych, svu, criminal minds as just a few examples. definitely agree on dexter though.

Eh, I’m more eclectic and I can appreciate later seasons. I think shows that last more than 10 seasons get tiring the longer they go on, but they often still have good episodes.
My favorite shows include
Supernatural - I have favorite episodes in every season. I still haven’t finished the last season because I’m still in denial. If I don’t watch it, it can’t be over! 😭
Bones - this one kinda lasted 1-2 seasons too many, but I feel it did a really good job with exploring so many different character developments that it was worth the stretch.
The Simpsons - wonderfully adaptive. ‘Nuff said.
Dexter - this one I give you. The first 1-3 seasons were definitely the best and the last season was absolute trash. I am excited about the reboot though, hopefully they right some wrongs and end it strong!

I enjoyed watching greys anatomy and I think the show kept getting better, but I hate how they bring lovable characters only to either have them leave or die. 
Criminal minds was just hands down great no matter which season. 
How I met your mother was good but I hated the last season. 
I lived all the seasons of friends. I wished they didn’t make Ross so goddamn whiny. 
Power has great seasons as well

The only show I've watched from your list is Greys Anatomy and each season seemed equal to me.
But in my opinion, 30 Rock got better as the seasons went on. Season 1 was terrible, Season 2 was OK, but from Season 3 they shined.

I disagree with American horror story. Some of the latter ones weren’t as good, but I definitely don’t think only 1,2,3 were the best….I love American horror story! I liked freak show, hotel, Roanoke, just to name a few that were after the first three seasons. 
As for other shows, I also second what @meh said…how would we do this for schitts creek, which is just hilarious throughout!
I also loved Lost, back in the day, although not so much the ending. 
Law and order SVU is another great example. 
I’m sure there’s more examples, but my brain isn’t working….

Usually seasons 2 or 3 have the biggest budget without the plot being so overworked yet. But I think most comedy sitcoms are the exception, those seem to just stay great the whole way through unless the series finale ruins it
