How do you know if your baby has an ear infection since yesterday she’s been fussy she doesn’t stay still and has trouble staying asleep and keeps rubbing her ear

At 6 weeks old, it’s unlikely an ear infection. 
We thought my daughter had one at 4 months old as she was pulling her one ear. Our pediatrician said it’s not common this young. It ended up being teething. Which we figured as she didn’t have a fever.
Ear pulling is also a sign of teething. 6 weeks is young for teething but not impossible. 
Message your pediatrician. Watch for fever. They might want you to come in to check just in case. 
It’s more likely that they found their ear and are exploring.
