Potty training help! Where to begin??

I feel so confused. My son is not potty trained yet. His doctor says potty training doesn't usually start till 3 years old but I've read countless articles that say otherwise. His friend was potty trained at 2. I don't know what is right. I've tried this year potty training but its been met with resistance. He doesn't like pulling his pants and diaper down so he only sat on his potty a few times with his pants on. Now whenever I try to lead him to the potty he refuses. He will be 3 next month. Please give me pointers, advice, anything!!

His reaction tells me he’s not ready. Pushing before they are ready can make it worse. My son was almost 3 1/2. I had the potty out but I didn’t push. One day he used it by himself and then he never had an accident again. He just decided that day to only use the potty. It’s best to wait until they are ready in my opinion

He doesn’t sound ready so I’d wait. My pediatrician said that all she cared about was that my kid was potty trained by her 4th birthday. She didn’t care when before that, whether it was when she was 2 or the month before she turned 4. She also reminded me not to compare to others because like with every other milestone there’s a wide spectrum of normal. She ended up being 3.5 when she potty trained. We tried all kinds of things but in the end the only thing that worked was waiting for her to be ready.

I wouldn’t push the issue. I tried around 2 with my daughter and we did the every 20 minute potty thing. It was absolutely horrible. We waited until 2.5 and tried again. The second time around it just clicked for her. Sounds like your son might not be ready yet. The key is to be consistent when he is ready though.

Sounds as though he isn’t ready. 
Talk about it a lot, read books, let him watch videos(Daniel tiger, Elmo, etc), let him pick out his undies. Make it exciting and fun. Prepare sticker charts and whatever else you are willing to bribe(I mean reward!) him with. 
Watch, it will seem, one day that he just decides on his own and that will be it. One day and trained.

Some kids are ready early, others are not. 3 isn’t late. We tried at 2 with my babe but he wasn’t ready, we paused for a few months, tried again at 2.5 and it worked. He was daytime trained in 3 days with no issues. Very few accidents. Nighttime he was in pull up’s for a while - if he didn’t wear them he’d have an accident but if he did wear them he woke up dry. It was weird but whatever, he was out of them when he was 3. 
He has cousins who were fully trained (day and night) around 2 and he has some who just turned 3 and are still in diapers full time. 🤷🏻‍♀️
