When does breastfeeding become too stressful?

Caitlin

When do you throw in the towel? My LO is 3.5 months. Breastfeeding was difficult from the start, for the first 2 months I had an oversupply which resulted in my son coughing, choking, and gagging, not to mention gas pains all the time from the flow. So I saw a lactation consultant to help & it dried up, so now I have just enough but constant anxiety as I only have two 4 oz bottles for the nanny at any given time (plus now he’s only getting up once per night which further decreases supply). & I have to work hard for those. I saw the lactation consultant again to increase my supply and she has me either feeding him or pumping 7 to 8 times a day. I’ve been back to work the past two weeks, I work at home so I am able to do this but I am absolutely exhausted and ready to throw in the towel. Also now that im pumping so much there isn’t enough for him at a feeding so I have to top him off with a bottle. I can’t keep up this pace, I’m so tired!

I’ve noticed that the 2 lactation consultants I saw are absolutely vigilant about continuing to breastfeed at all costs & they’ll never say time for formula. My husband said they’re “nipple or nothing” lol.
