Do you give your breastfed baby vitamin D?

His doctor gave me some for him to take but is it necessary? My other child who was breastfed never took vitamin D and he’s fine, He’s 5 years old now. I’m wondering how necessary is it?

Their growing bodies need vitamin D. I gave my breastfed baby vitamin D drops. You can ask your pediatrician, some allow the breastfeeding mother to take a certain dose of vitamin D themselves so it gets transferred in the breast milk.

The ones they prescribed were full of garbage ( Carmel color and all kinds of other stuff) I just took extra vitamin d on top of my prenatal. My girls are completely healthy

I live in Canada, it’s winter here and really cold so we cannot go outside as much as we would want. My pediatrician recommended vitamin D as vitamin D levels on breast milk are really low. So I do give my baby after researching the benefits especially citing the above! Good luck!

Im planning to. I was told breastmilk isn’t a great source of vitamin D in itself and the AAP recommends it for all infants regardless of how they’re fed

No I never did but we have always spent a lot of time outside. My son was born in May so we were outside a lot in the spring and summer

It was told to me to give it to her but I never did. She does take a multivitamin (because she was anemic and gets car sick) but that’s it and not for vitamin D specifically

We did at the start and then it just sort of fell by the wayside. At 9mo, our daughter couldn’t bear weight even with assistance. Her legs just crumpled beneath her. Dr recommended the Vit D drops again. She compared it being similar to rickets. I don’t know if that’s what did it, but a month later she was pulling to stand. We were super diligent about it then until 12mo when she switched to whole milk.
