There is a greater risk for toxic shock syndrome if you don't give yourself a break from tampons. If you're going to wear tampons at night you should wear pads for a few hours during the day. I find it easier to wear pads at night and take the break from my tampons while I'm sleeping.

I had a friend who wore her tampon in over night, and it got stuck. I use a change my tampon regularly throughout the day to keep clean and you a Vagisil wipe in between to keep away that kind of 'period smell' you get. At night time I don't bleed much at all, so I use a small pantie liner, it's more comfy. I recommend that, and not a tampon at night. If you bleed more, then use a pad. (:
