Born in the ambulance…
My little miracle came seven weeks early. Until then, the pregnancy was normal and there were no complications. But on October 20th, my water broke in the morning, I was at 32+6. Since I wasn't sure and only a little amniotic fluid leaked out, I called my gynecologist and was supposed to come to the practice. On the way there, the contractions kick in quickly and violently. In practice, the cervix was completely closed, but contractions did happen every 2 minutes. An ambulance was called so we could make it to the hospital, as the journey takes about 30 minutes.
As it is on such days, there was a bomb disposal in the city center and there was a traffic jam everywhere.
Instead of 30 minutes we needed 60 minutes ...
the contractions got stronger and stronger and the paramedic has already undressed me (just in case). Everything at full speed. About 20 minutes before the hospital he said to me that he could feel baby’s head. From that moment on I just pressed down. Shortly before the hospital she was born in the ambulance. It only took 4.5 hours from beginning to actual birth. Needless to say that I hadn’t had any kind of medication or pain killer. 100% natural birth 😅
Thank god she breathed directly! Small but strong (2080 g and 48 cm). I could hold her in my arms for like ten minutes.
She was then picked up by the doctors in the emergency room on our arrival and taken care of in the ICU. I couldn't see her for like 4 hours because I still needed stitches. My husband missed everything, he wasn’t allowed to drive with us in the ambulance…
We were in the hospital for a total of 16 days, 8 days of which in the intensive care unit. She needed support for breathing to keep her lungs open. After 6 days she was able to breathe on her own completely. Bf wasn’t possible bc she wouldn’t suck long enough to get enough milk. So we have to use bottles. In the beginning I pumped but after 6 weeks my milk stopped. :(
But even though everything went not as expected and we all had to fight a bit for a while, today she is a healthy and happy baby! ❤️
