I have a cold how do I protect my newborn?

Hi so my son is almost 2 weeks old and um getting a cold and I'm scared he'll get it 😭 what and how can I prevent him from getting sick too? I'm breastfeeding and only one home during the day * all my family is sick rn too * 🤧  help please

There's nothing that you can do that's going to prevent that baby to get sick. But there are things that you can do once the baby is sick such as using a cold mist humidifier, nose Frida, saline solution, Tylenol if needed. You can't give any actual medication to children until they're 6 years old other than you know Tylenol but it's perfectly normal for children to get sick and your baby is going to get all of you. Try not to fear common illnesses such as colds and stuff like that because you'll drive yourself absolutely crazy although it's obviously not ideal for the children to be sick it's just part of nature

Just keep breastfeeding and wash your hands often. Limit the kissing/ cuddling/ etc until you’re feeling better. Watch for signs of congestion and fever and stuff in baby and treat accordingly. But Your feeding is going to be the most beneficial thing, for both of you. Antibodies work both ways, your baby can actually help heal you quicker from the cold while you are protecting them from what you have. Wearing a mask while feeding is silly to me, baby is exposed to you no matter what and all the air in your house circulates. I also don’t think a Covid test is necessary because while it’ll tell you if you have it, it doesn’t change your next steps. Covid and colds are both treated symptomatically. No reason to go to a place with Covid positive people for testing or stress about finding a home test (at least where i am they’re impossible to get). Obviously stay home and away from people until you’re feeling better. But those are not popular opinions with everyone right now 😬 so do what makes you comfortable. Feel better!

You can try to wear an n95 mask, or any mask if you don’t have one of those, and wash your hands often to reduce germ exposure to your baby.
